Bowral under 8 B versus Moss Vale 2/7/11
A Christmas cracker in July to mark the start of the school holidays this morning at Moss Vale. Like a fine wine the Bowral Under 8 B’s do not travel well and got off to nervy start squandering a few good chances early on. Sam Watson was the man most likely to break the deadlock and created a handful of chances in the first ten minutes, however the Moss Vale keeper was not going to be beaten easily making a string of great saves. Sam Watson tried everything including an attempted chip shot which only managed to hit the floodlight behind the goal. It was fair to say that Bowral had most of the possession early on before the visitors forced a corner from their first attack and it was to prove costly as a short pass was helped on the way into the box and a Moss Vale striker was there to push home. Following this the Candy Stripes got their tail up and it took some hard running from Sam DeHaan and Sam Pedroza in midfield to keep them at bay. With time running out in the half John Jamieson made three runs down the wing which all ended in him cutting into the box to shoot, two shots were well stopped by the Moss Vale keeper; the third shot hit the left hand upright before being helped over the line by John to square the game up at half time. Liam McDonnell came out of goals and he made an impact with some hard tackling which created several chances for the visitors. Orlando Maule fell back into defence and was responsible for a couple of last ditch tackles to stop the Candy Stripes from getting through on goal, he was ably assisted by Christian Giuliano who yet again covered every inch of grass. Following a tussle in mid field, Sam Watson broke through to get the goal that he richly deserved calmly pushing the ball past the substitute goalkeeper. The fact that Bowral had went ahead seemed to reinvigorate Moss Vale who from that moment seemed like a different team, they had several chances before deservedly finding the back of the net to square the game up. John Jamieson made a good save and then the post came to the visitors rescue as Moss Vale piled on the pressure, there was still time however for Nicolas McColl to go close and some fine running from Colin Wilson almost resulted in Bowral going ahead for the second time in the match. The last few minutes was a nervous affair for both sides and a jinky run from Kieran Osborne had the home team supporters holding their breath, his shot was drowned by a sea of Moss Vale defenders and the match ended in a draw which was a fair result, both teams had their chances and neither deserved to loose this one.
